STORY OF ÉS BISZTRÓ

Beginnings

Kempinski Hotel Corvinus's then GM, Emile Bootsma first met gastronomy expert and local restaurateur Roy Zsidai at the end of 2012 to discuss a future collaboration on a downtown restaurant concept and operations that were the best for both hotel guests and locals. After a relatively short construction and concept execution, ÉS Bisztró was opened on 8 April 2013 with the successful cooperation of a member of a prestigious 120-year-old hotel group and a soon-to-be 40-year-old Hungarian gastronomy group.

ÉS Bisztró is a casual Hungarian-Viennese bistro and steakhouse in the heart of Budapest. Breaking the traditional restaurant routine, ÉS offers a more laid-back experience to enjoy wine, beer and nibbles while chatting away. Aside from classic Hungarian and Viennese dishes, we also grill meats and fish, and you can even savour one of Budapest’s best burgers at ÉS. The carefully curated menu of monarchy-inspired meals, extraordinary grills and ÉS specialities comes complete with a spectacular selection of wines and artisan beers. Sundays see Family Table – not brunch, because at ÉS even brunch is something special!

We believe that spending time with your family and friends is the most important experience in this fast world. At our Family Tables, you do not have to cook; just relax and enjoy your partner's company. Main courses are served at tables, while desserts and salads are on the buffet tables. A kids entertainment corner, live music and free parking make our Sunday lunch special and unique in the city. ÉS Bisztró is co-managed by Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest and the Zsidai Group. It was established in 2013 to bring together the values and gastronomical experience of Kempinski and the Zsidai family and leave yet another mark on the Budapest culinary scene.

Under the auspices of executive chef Vernon Strachan and head chef Géza Kónya, ÉS provides a 360° gastronomical experience, which you can share with friends as well as business partners.

Menu

The menu changes twice a year, while ÉS serves seasonal specials every three weeks.

Sunday Family Table

ÉS Bisztró serves Budapest’s (we believe) best Sunday lunch, which we call Family Table. We serve you at your table, and the experience features live music and children’s craft activities. The price includes complimentary parking, house wine (white, red and rosé), sparkling wine, coffee, tea and soft drinks. 

For our regular guests, we safekeep personalised French Laguiole knives, with their names engraved.

And it isn’t only on Sundays that we bear children in mind: we offer a children’s menu every day.

Herb Garden

In summers, we grow our own herbs on the rooftop of the hotel. We harvest the freshest basil, mint, thyme, rosemary and sage, amongst loads of others.

Company Events

ÉS TOO is ÉS Bisztró’s answer to private or corporate parties. This tastefully appointed function room seats up to 50 people, while receptions can comfortably accommodate up to 100 people. For more intimate affairs or team-building events, our chef’s table, seating ten people, is ideal for bringing groups together.

ÉS Bisztró Terasz

One of the biggest outdoors terraces, ÉS’s iconic two-storey terrace is open from April to October and in December. In summer it seats up to 120 people, in the breezy Deák Ferenc utca (aka Fashion Street), sheltered from street traffic. In winter, it is functional from the first Sunday of Advent through to the first week of January. At this time, ÉS Terrace serves hot drinks and tasteful street food.
